Canal Head Basin

The canal head will be cleared and lined. Washwalls will be repaired, restored or rebuilt as appropriate and a turning basin 20 meters long only will be provided along the line of the original canal basin.

An outfall structure will be provided to maintain canal water level and drain the canal if necessary. An outfall pipe will be laid along Canal Head North to the River Kent.

The canal will be generally 1.5 meters deep with a minimum of 1.2 meters deep at the edge to provide a limited number of temporary moorings. The invert lining of the canal will be constructed of reinforced concrete.

Extensions to this basin and the Canal Head will be developed in conjunction with others as part of the overall masterplan. Finishes to the immediate surrounds will also be developed later in conjunction with an overall scheme.

Please note that this area is being considered as part of a wider masterplan. This may change the configuration of the waterspace.
