It is proposed
to supply the canal with water taken from the River Kent. The most
appropriate place to do this has been identified as Crowpark where
the river is at close proximity to the canal.
There are two options being explored for the
supply of water for the canal:
- Option 1 – Refurbish the small water mill
which sits on the western bank of the River Kent just north of
Hawes Bridge to provide power to pump water from the river to the
canal. The pump would be located on the eastern side of the river
with a new intake structure on the east bank of the river.
- Option 2 – Also construct a new pump
house to the east of the canal with a new intake structure on the
east bank. However, power for the pump would be taken from the
national supply in the local area.
The outfall from the proposed water supply will be
located on the nearside of the canal approximately 70 meters to the
north of Crowpark Bridge.
It is known that a canal bed drain valve which
used to drain down to the nearby River Kent was also located just to
the north of Crowpark Bridge.
