Kendal Gas House Bridge

There is no visual evidence of the original bridge crossing that once existed at this location. At present the road crosses the canal route at approximately the proposed towpath level. A new crossing will be required at this location for this busy road.

Two options are being explored for this crossing:·

  • Option 1 – A fixed bridge will be constructed.
  • Option 2 – A moveable bridge will be constructed.
Below the new bridge the canal will be cleared and lined to the original dimensions. The canal will be generally 1.5 meters deep through the bridge. The invert lining and washwalls of the canal will be constructed of reinforced concrete.
