Sedgwick Aqueduct

Sedgwick Aqueduct was constructed in 1819 by John Fletcher to a John Rennie design and carries the canal over the lane in the centre of Sedgwick village. The aqueduct is owned and maintained by British Waterways and no work is envisaged to the structure other than re-lining works.

Sedgwick Aqueduct is a Grade II Listed structure and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Below the aqueduct the canal will be cleared and lined to the original dimensions. Any repairs to the abutments will be carried out.

The canal will be generally 1.5 metres deep through the structure. The invert lining of the canal will be constructed of Reinforced Concrete.

The adjoining towpaths will narrow slightly to pass over the aqueduct as original. An original set of worn stone steps descend the northwest abutment of the aqueduct to the lane below.
