IWA ANNOUNCES SITE FOR DIAMOND JUBILEE
NATIONAL TRAILBOAT FESTIVAL 2006

The Inland Waterways Association (IWA)
has today announced Crooklands in Cumbria, home of the Westmorland County
Show on the Northern Reaches of the Lancaster Canal, as the site for the
Association's Diamond Jubilee National Trailboat Festival 2006, which will
be held over the Easter Weekend of 14th to 17th April. |
IWA National Chairman John Fletcher said:
"Recent funding commitment by Rural Regeneration Cumbria, South Lakeland
District Council, Kendal Town Council and others is good news but we need to
promote the wider benefits of restoration to the people of South Lakeland.
This Festival will go a long way to raise awareness of the restoration
scheme and provide a fun day out for both trail boaters and other visitors."

Stephen Appleby said:
"Since securing £750,000 funding, the plan to restore the Lancaster Canal to
Kendal has advanced considerably and the news that IWA's National Trailboat
Festival is to be held on the watered section in
2006 is yet another boost to this highly deserving project and the hard work
of local volunteer groups. "
Northern Reaches Restoration Group
Chairman, Hal Bagot commented that:
"The Group is delighted local volunteers are showing their continued
commitment to this ambitious multi-million pound scheme to re-open the most
northerly 14 miles of the Lancaster Canal to Kendal.
Holding IWA's National Trailboat Festival on the watered section at
Crooklands will serve to further bring the project to the forefront of
people's minds."
